Samsung
maintains top slot in U.S. TV market for 60 months
Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest flat-panel TV
maker, maintained its status as the top flat-panel TV seller in the U.S. for 60
consecutive months, data showed on Tuesday.
Samsung Electronics retained the top spot in March with a 29.4 percent market share in terms of revenue, according to the data compiled by global market research firm NPD Group.
The figure was 3 percentage points higher than in February, the data showed.
Samsung has kept its top position since April 2008 in terms of monthly sales. Also, the South Korean electronics firm has maintained the top slot since 2006 in terms of annual sales.
Vizio of the U.S. came in second with a 16.9 percent interest, followed by LG Electronics Co. of South Korea with a 10.5 percent share, the data showed.
Samsung also trumped others in light emitting diode (LED) TV sales, with its market portion reaching 33.5 percent in the January-March period, putting its rival U.S. Vizio at a distant second with 21.5 percent. LG Electronics trailed behind Vizio with 11.7 percent.
In the smart TV sector, Samsung claimed a 37 percent share, relegating Vizio and Sharp Corp. of Japan, which held 29.2 percent and a 12.2 percent interest, respectively, to the second and third spots, it showed.
Samsung also racked up a 47.4 percent share in terms of 3D TV sales, followed by LG Electronics with a 21.2 percent, the data showed. (Yonhap News)
